JUDGE THADDEUS J. MAY

Judge Thaddeus J. May was appointed to the Third District Court in February of 2025 by Governor Spencer J. Cox.  He serves Salt Lake, Summit, and Tooele counties.  Judge May graduated from the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law in 2006.  Judge May also holds a bachelor’s degree in History from Brigham Young University.  Immediately prior to his judicial appointment, Judge May was an Assistant United States Attorney in the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah.  Judge May was deputy chief of the Violent Crime division where he prosecuted violent crime in tribal communities and served as the Tribal Liaison for the District of Utah.  Prior to his federal service, Judge May was a Deputy District Attorney with the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office where he prosecuted special victim crime, violent crime, and homicides.      11/25
