The Utah Judiciary is aware of a scam involving text messages that falsely appear to come from the courts and demand payment through links or QR codes. These messages are not legitimate - courts do not request payments this way, and individuals should not respond or provide any personal or financial information.

It’s not your fault

It can be very common for teens to believe that they somehow caused their parents to split up. However, your parents’ divorce is never your fault. Parents split up because of problems in their relationship. You are not the reason they had marital problems and made the decision to divorce.

So if you are asking yourself things like,

  • "What could I have done to change this?”
  • “Was it something I said or did?"
  • "Is this somehow my fault?"
  • Or if you are thinking the divorce would not have happened if you had just listened to your parents, not argued so much, or had done better at school, etc…

These types of questions or thoughts can lead to you blaming yourself for a situation that in reality involved many factors that were out of your control. So, stop and remember this is not your fault!
