3rd District Juvenile Court - Family Recovery Court

The mission of the Family Recovery Court is to treat substance use addiction through an intense and concentrated program to preserve families and protect children. This is achieved through court-based collaboration and an integrated service delivery system for the parents of children who have come to the attention of the court on matters of abuse and neglect. A drug court team, including the judge, guardian ad litem, assistant attorney general, parent defense counsel, DCFS drug court specialist, clinical coordinator, program administrator, and drug court coordinators, collaborate to support to the participants, monitor compliance with treatment, and court ordered requirements. Each participant completes a drug and alcohol assessment, is placed in treatment based on the findings of the assessment, and submits to frequent random drug screens. The judge and team review the parent's progress every two weeks; the average length of time in the program is approximately 11 months. The court applies sanctions and incentives as appropriate, based on the compliance, performance, and progress of the parent. The goal of the Family Dependency Drug Court is to provide timely permanency for children in a safe and drug-free environment.
