JUDGE WAYNE JONES

Judge Wayne D. Jones was appointed to the bench as the new Tooele County Justice Court Judge in February, 2026. Judge Jones brings nearly three decades of legal experience to the bench, including extensive service in both local and state government. Judge Jones graduated from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University, where he earned his Juris Doctor, and is an active member of the Utah State Bar Association. Since 2013, Judge Jones has served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Utah. In that role, he prosecuted complex financial fraud cases, major felony crimes, securities violations, drug trafficking enterprises, and immigration enforcement cases in both state and federal courts. His work has included service as a Financial Fraud Prosecutor and as part of specialized task forces addressing human trafficking, identity fraud, and high-level narcotics operations. Prior to his service with the Attorney General’s Office, Judge Jones served as a Deputy County Attorney for Tooele County and as Assistant City Attorney/City Prosecutor for Tooele City, where he provided legal counsel to municipal officials, and prosecuted misdemeanor offenses. Judge Jones has broad courtroom experience, including extensive jury and bench trials, and a long-standing commitment to public service.
