Rule 603. Oath or Affirmation toTestify Truthfully


Before testifying, awitness must give an oath or affirmation to testify truthfully. It must be in aform designed to impress that duty on the witness’s conscience.

This rule isthe federal rule, verbatim. The oath or affirmation need not be in any specialform but only such as to awaken the conscience of the witness and impress thewitness with the duty to testify truthfully. The rule is a modified version ofRule 18, Utah Rules of Evidence (1971).
