Rule 4-603. Mandatory electronic filing.


To require thatdocuments in district court criminal cases be filed electronically.

To provide forexceptions.


This rule applies in thedistrict court.

Statement of the Rule:

(1) Except as providedin Paragraph (2), pleadings and other papers filed in criminal cases in thedistrict court on or after March 31, 2014 shall be electronically filed usingthe electronic filer?s interface.

(2)(A) Aself-represented party who is not a lawyer may file pleadings and other papersusing any means of delivery permitted by the court.

(2)(B) A lawyer whoserequest for a hardship exemption from this rule has been approved by theJudicial Council may file pleadings and other papers using any means ofdelivery permitted by the court. To request an exemption, the lawyer shallsubmit a written request outlining why the exemption is necessary to theDistrict Court Administrator.

(2)(C) The Informationmay be filed using any means of delivery permitted by the court until January1, 2015, at which time it shall be electronically filed using the electronicfiler?s interface.

(3) The electronic filershall be an attorney of record and shall use a unique and personal identifierthat is provided by the filer?s service provider.
