Rule 14-409. Self-study categories of accredited MCLEdefined.
(a) Lecturing, teaching, panel discussions and communityoutreach.
(1) Lawyers who lecture in an accredited CLE program willreceive credit for three hours for each hour spent lecturing. No lecturing orteaching credit is available for participation in a panel discussion or forpreparation time.
(2) Lawyers who lecture in a community outreach capacity mayreceive credit for each hour spent lecturing to groups of 5 or more non-lawyersfor the purpose of educating a non-lawyer audience about legal topics. Communityoutreach may include, but is not limited to a lecture made by a lawyer aboutthe lawyer?s deliberation on legal subject matter as an elected or appointedmember of a public policy making body that is created by statute orconstitution and a lecture by a lawyer about the structure of Government, theUtah Constitution, the U.S. Constitution or any legislation of either the UtahLegislature or U.S. Congress.? Suchcommunity outreach lecturing, however, must be referenced in an agenda oroutline format identifying: the body to whom the lecture is presented; thedate, hour, and duration of the lecture; and the topics covered.
(b) Final published course schedule,outline or agenda.? The Board willdetermine the number of accredited CLE hours available for a program based onthe final published course schedule, outline or agenda, as appropriate.
(c) Equivalent CLE credit forcertain self-study activities.? Subjectto the Board?s determination, the Board will allow equivalent credit for suchactivities that further the purpose of this article and qualify forequivalency.? Such equivalent activitiesmay include, but are not limited to, viewing approved CLE audio and video andwebcast presentations, computer interactive telephonic programs, writing andpublishing an article in a legal periodical, part-time teaching by a lawyer inan approved law school, or delivering a paper or speech on a professionalsubject at a meeting primarily attended by lawyer, legal assistants or lawstudents.? The number of hours of creditallowed for such activities and the procedures for obtaining equivalent creditwill be determined specifically by the Board for each instance.
