ParkingSLC.com has developed a Parking Finder app to help you locate a parking spot using your smartphone's location. You can use this app to locate over 30,000 available parking spots in downtown Salt Lake City. You can also find hourly, daily, and event rates for parking structures.

You can also download the QP Quick Pay Smartphone App to pay for parking right from your smartphone, by text, or by voice. More information about this app can be found on its Frequently Asked Questions page.

Congress.Gov

USCapitol.jpgThe Library of Congress recently launched a new website for federal legislation research:: Congress.Gov. The site currently has information about legislation from 2001 to present. The website will eventually replace THOMAS, the current legislative resource from the Library of Congress.

Congress.Gov has several improved search and design features, including:

  • the ability to narrow search results by year, legislation type, and subject.
  • lists of bills introduced and laws enacted in the current congress.
  • an easy to read overview of each law's status.

The site also has an extensive overview of the legislative process, featuring videos and transcripts.

Grandparents Day

IMG_1186.JPGSunday, September 9th is Grandparents Day. 36 U.S.C. §125 states this commemorative day is designated the first Sunday after Labor Day. U.S. President Jimmy Carter declared the first National Grandparents Day in 1978 in a presidential proclamation.

Grandparents play an important role in their families' lives. According to information from the U.S. Census Bureau, 6.7 million grandparents had grandchildren under 18 living in their household in 2009. According to information from AARP, more than 18,000 grandparents in Utah are responsible for grandchildren living with them.
