Committee on Privacy and Public Court Records
The Committee on Privacy and Public Court Records is an ad hoc committee established by the Judicial Council. The Council has directed the Committee to consider the policies favoring public access to court records and the policies favoring privacy and to recommend the classification of records as public or not public. Statutes and rules already classify the majority of court records as public or not public, and the Committee will consider whether the policies supporting those classifications remain sound. The Committee will pay particular attention to access to court records through electronic means, such as the internet.
The Committee's meetings are open to the public. However, testimony to the Committee is by invitation. If you would like to present facts or opinions to the Committee, please contact Tim Shea at tims@email.utcourts.gov or by mail at P.O. Box 140241 / Salt Lake City, Utah 84114-0241. Email inquiries are encouraged. The Committee's schedule may not permit it to hear from all who wish to speak. Anyone may submit written statements and all will be considered.
Public hearings, open to all observers and any who wish to speak, will be scheduled after the Committee has prepared a draft report with recommendations.
